
L.I.B.R.O.S. is a local organization of librarians and others interested in library service for Chicano/Latinos and the Spanish-speaking. Established in 1985, L.I.B.R.O.S. obtained chapter affiliation with REFORMA in May 1987.

1969
The first Chicano Studies collection was started at the Centro de Estudios Chicano Research Center outside the San Diego State University Campus.
1974-1977
The Chicano Collection was organized and cataloged by José Salgado.
1979
The Chicano Studies Collection was transferred to the Love Library at SDSU.
1974-1984
B.U.S.C.A. Association – Bibliotecas Unidas para Servicio a Chicanos de Aztlán – was founded by a group of librarians and library outreach workers from San Diego: Laura Bareña, Marsha de Baca Abanira, Mary Martinez de Uybungco, Paquita Rivas, Ignacio Lucero, José Salgado, and others.

April 19 – the name L.I.B.R.O.S. – Libros e Informacion en Bibliotecas con Recursos y Otros Servicios – was chosen for the new San Diego association.

June – the first logo for L.I.B.R.O.S. was designed by Juan Laguna and Roberto Pozos.
1985-1987
L.I.B.R.O.S. functioned as an independent local association.
